The Jesus I never knew

I haven't had a very good week again this week, being sick and feeling very unsociable but on the flip side I have been able to get some reading done and most of it has been this book(above) by Phillip Yancy.
I guess one of the things that I have enjoyed reading about, actually maybe enjoy is not the right word but I have found it interesting to muse on the facts surrounding Jesus socio-economic background.
Firstly- Teen pregnancy
Second- In Mary and Joseph's home town he would always be seen as an illegitimate child.
Third- Born into a very poor family.
Fourth- Born in a country area whose locals had the reputation of being a bit simple.
Fifth- His disciples were also mostly from that same area. You know the phrase we are like those we associate with.

Jesus certainly wasn't given any privilege in his birth stature. We are not given much information of Jesus growing up but we can gain a little insight from this information. We can safely assume his life was not one of luxuries. We can not know but we can imagine people might have snickered at him behind his back, questioning his parentage. When he was out on his travels people from other areas would have known where he was from by his name and maybe an accent. They would have assumed that he was not an intelligent man, people were then surprised by him when he spoke.

I guess what has made me bring up this particular points from the book is that I am everyday reminded what a blessing I have been given by being born in Australia. It is a beautiful country with abundant resources such as food, material goods, and sunshine and most blessedly I am free to worship God. In Australia the vast majority of people would consider themselves middle-class, but if we think about what other countries consider middle-class we can consider ourselves blessed.

Gorgeous Husband's Granddad is heading a group of men and women to Papa New Guinea on Tuesday. They are heading into the mountainous area where they will be walking 4 hours from where their internal flight drops them off. I ask that you pray for them and the people that they are going to serve. They will be taking with them both spiritual and material gifts and I really urge you to pray that this trip is a real blessing for them all. I would also ask for prayers for those family who are sending out their loved ones for I believe they too are sacrificing much.
Thank-you if you have read to the end of this rather superfluous
posting.

Not the easiest week on record

Well as the title says it hasn't been the easiest week on record. I've been sick since last Sunday and I finally took myself off to the doctors yesterday and got some antibiotics for a viral infection that turned into a sinus infection.
My good report from the doctor was my perfectly delightful daughter. Princess showed me that there is a point to teaching her manners, obedience and understanding feelings. In the doctors office she sat on the ground to play with some toys while the doctor looked at mummy. We were hardly there for 2 minutes and Princess had only just found the toys that she wanted to play with and I had to tell her it was time to go and that she needed to put all the toys away. She asked once if she could play some more and when I told her it was time to go she simply agree and picked up ALL the toys and put them away. The doctor looked at me and smiled. I felt so chuffed that she showed such wonderful obedience. I could go on but I know I shouldn't.

My Gorgeous Husband has had a busy week too with meetings and meetings at work, work dinners ( which he couldn't make because he was too sick to go) and further meeting on Friday night and all day Saturday. He was especially sad when he found out he wouldn't see his Princess from Friday morning, which was a quick kiss as he was walking out the door until Saturday night. Which is also why I find myself blogging on a Friday night as I am all alone with Sweetness tucked up in bed.
Tomorrow I have a day of housework planned because being sick and tired I haven't been able to do much more than get dinner on the table and put away the dishes from the night before. I really do feel blessed to have such lovely children who haven't made me feel worst and haven't caused too much extra work for me.

Anywho I look forward to a new week and feeling better and having a clean house and seeing my husband for some quality couch time. Sorry it is such a boring blog with all text and no interesting pics. Actually that reminds me I need to blog about the great book I'm reading. Till next time.

Couple Time

I have to lucky friends who are going or by the time they read this they would have gone on a lovely couple retreat. Having kiddy winks a little older than mine they have been able to say "Now I need to be with just you" to their partner and I couldn't agree more wholeheartedly.
Isn't it funny just how easily children can worm their ways into the middle of your life before you even know it. The hard part is to let them know that that place really isn't best for them. My little princess is constantly at the moment uttering the words "Look at me, look at me". She is in constant need of attention and she knows just what to do to get it. Now I realise it is the perfect time for me to train her that she is not the centre of the family but she is a very important member of our family. I hope this doesn't sound too harsh I am just sharing my view and desire to have family dynamics that benefit all members of our ever so lovely family. Children need stability and one great stabling force is the union between their mum and dad. Get that right and you are at a great advantage in producing happy healthy family orientated children.
With Sweetness still quite young we can't go away for our 'couples only' retreat but we can try much harder to get our 'couch time' at home.

Another new week

I really couldn't tell you what has happened much this week. It was all going well I suppose until today. You guessed it once again I or someone in my family is sick.
Lucky me- it's me. I suppose it is better than one of the girls or GH. But I really am willing Spring into our lives. I also guess it was bound to happen because it is EKKA time and we all know that EKKA time is when all the germs in Australia come to visit Brisbane. Any way nice to know I wasn't alone as GH said that not many people were at church this morning. He just took Princess with him and while he played song leader little Princess was a good girl and sat with Auntie to be. Thank-you Auntie to be.
Anyway I was looking through images on Google and discovered a new artist I like. Her name is Cherry Jeffe Huldah and her paintings are almost child like with the ladies and children she draws having big doe eyes.

Also to come (hopefully if I remember) will be a blog about Miriam. And I am also reading a book by Yancey I think its called The Jesus I thought I knew. Or something like that. So I hope to be given some great revelations.

Shocking

Princess had her swimming day and we had a regular morning tea with our BFF.
In Brissy at the moment our weather is very electric.
Hence our SHOCKING Friend.

The girls are having a lot of fun on the trampoline and their hair went wild.

It is harder to see with Princess as her hair is generally wild but her Blonde Princess friend is looking as wild as her crazy personality. She is really one fun loving little girl and my Princess is very blessed to have such a great friend. The same goes for me and her mum.

In other news I am hoping for a lovely day as my GH is home today on account of the EKKA holiday.

It's funny photos day

Got to love a family that can smile together.

Princess found mummy's old glasses and had some fun. Of course these have now been added to the dress up box. Don't worry they have next to no prescription in them.
It was funny but Princess actually was able to put the black rimmed glasses together with Harry Potter. We haven't let her watch the movies but she has seen the covers of the movies. It amazes me everyday just how much a 2/3 year old can know. It does make me vigilant to make sure I don't ever dumb things down for her.

One especially great thing is that Princess is starting to understand what emotions she is feeling. She told me the other day that she was 'very mad at me'. I know it doesn't sound nice but a younger Princess would have thrown a temper tantrum. Now she is able to understand what feeling she is feeling and voice that 'concern' to me. Oh just so you don't think I am too mean a mother the reason she was mad at me was because I said she could have another child's pens in church.
