My girl

With so much going on this past week I really never got the chance to share my Sweetness blog. Whee I tell the world what an amazing little cherub I have been blessed with.
My beautiful girl never in my life have I met someone who has so much joy. You are rarely in a bad mood and if it ever happens it is from tiredness or sickness. You came into this world being an absolute blessing in every way. You took to feeding so easily and yet you have given it up s willingly, after all who needs boobies when there is so many other things to be eaten and chewed on.

I guess it is hard to describe you without being so biased but you really have made my world so loving and cheerful. You really don't have to do very much to make me smile. I guess it is because you are smiling so much and the laughter that we get from you these days it is just pure joy, you seem to laugh with such abandon, I pray you never lose that trait.

I know that in the future I will have little complaints or whinges about you but I can hardly believe that you have gotten to one years of age and I really couldn't tell anyone any faults of yours because as of yet I am still waiting to find out what they are.Its so funny that you have been able to lighten my load as a mother, you are a wonderful playmate to your sister and yet you make sure she doesn't exactly walk all over you.

My lovely precious little girl I pray that you will always walk this earth with the same joy you bring. I pray that you will be able to use that joy as your gift from God and bring not just yourself but many others the same joy and happiness that you bring your daddy and I.

You are determined yet submissive, you are brave and you love to explore, especially heights. You are loving and cuddly, yet you can play by yourself or with your sister. You love to laugh and have fun and you pass that on to those around you.
I love you my sweetness and I feel so blessed to have you in my world.

James and Kathleena

What a beautiful blessing God has granted us in marriage. Now James and Kathleena are enjoying His great gift.

It was a beautiful day even though we did have a little bit of rain and hail just a few hours before the ceremony. Everyone played their part very well. From the 8 children (3 flower girls and 5 page boys)who managed to walk down the aisle without too much fuss to the father of the bride who decided that the groom was worthy of his beloved daughter.

The ceremony was followed by a gorgeous afternoon tea where everyone was able to congratulate the newly weds. And the children were able to run free in the gardens or flutter in the case of my lovely flower girl.
After this mummy said goodbye to her lovely girls it was on to the reception at a grand hotel in the city where we feasted, and danced (Greek style) and wished the beautiful couple fare-thee-well.

Oh and thanks Rebekah I copied your new blog ideas:)

Its only you

Most morning after I have put Sweetness back for her morning sleep and Princess is watching Play School I turn on the computer and read the news on various papers from the big three-Home, UK and US papers. Well if you see the day it is today the headline that dominates is the breakdown of a marriage. A marriage that involves three children, one already from a unusual set of circumstances, another was adopted into the family and now all three will lose what little stability they had in life.

I can't express just how sad it is to see another marriage ended for what I believe is pure selfishness. Sure I really don't know the ins and outs of what has happened but besides domestic violence (physical or mental) there is no valid excuse for couples to not be able to make a marriage work.

Of course this is my opinion and some may think it is warped but it is my blog and I feel it is appropriate for me to discuss my feelings on these matters.

Life is difficult, we can not expect to grow or mature without any hardships in life. Marriage is no different. There are going to be wonderful joys in a marriage, like when we are on our honeymoon, the birth of a new child, a great day at the beach as a family. There are going to be difficult times- sleepless nights with a new baby, jealousy over the attractive new co-worker of your husband/wife, struggling with the demands of family and work. We all are going to struggle in life and marriage but the bottom line is - it is our decision to make a marriage work.

I understand that we can not control another person and make them stay in the marriage but we certainly influence them. If a husband is unhappy with his wife and starts turning his attentions to a flirty co-worker, is that the end of a marriage. The wife can choose to make it work or give up, she does still have some influence and if her next step is the right one her husband would not look anywhere but at his own wife because he doesn't need any attention but hers.

I could give example after example but I am not wanting to fix any specific problems I just want to express how sad it makes me that these two people have decided to end a marriage. And because these are two people in the spotlight it influences more than just their own families it influences the world. What a shame that people who work so hard on their careers are not willing to put that same effort into their marriages.

It didn't work the first time

The same as the last

Again, time seems to have gotten away from me and I realised it has been a little while since I have blogged. Hmmm what has been going on, well all of last week I had been preparing for a special celebration- our soon to be sister-in-law's bridal shower. It was a great night where most of the ladies of our church got together to spend time with sharing memories, advice and good humour. It really does me good to spend time with like minded women and it is always great to hear what is working in other peoples' marriages to think about how I can improve mine. The next day we joined my future sister-in-law along with her friends for high tea in the morning and bowling at night. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I can actually knock a few pins over. Photos above are just recent photos of the girls, no significant photo session it is just nice to get some smiling photos.
The video is the girls playing on our back retaining wall. Half way through writing this post I went outside with the girls and Sweetness was playing in the same area, only this time she wasn't so co-ordinated and she has fallen off, hitting her head on the rock on the way down. It looks kind of bad, bruised with a little cut. It just reminds me how different the girls are Princess wasn't this adventurous and therefore I haven't had to deal with many injuries. Luckily it is Princess who is playing flower girl, I couldn't guarantee a bruise-free, scratch-free face from Sweetness. In other news I have decided from the advice of a friend from church to enter the 50000 words for November. It is the National Novel Writing Month. Although saying that it looks like a world wide event. Last year over 100000 people entered and 15000 completed it. I thought it might be a nice idea to get the creative juices flowing. I can't imagine I will complete it but it might encourage me to start somewhere. So now I just need some help in doing the maths to figure out a good days number count, luckily I know a good accountant.

It's been a while

I saw that it has been a whole week since I have blogged so I thought I better do one even though I really don't have much to say.
I have been spoiling myself by reading two novels this week which means not much has been getting done. One was a really enjoyable read. It was called 'Wild Lavender'. It is a historical fiction piece from around the 1920s to 1940s, set in France, mostly Paris. It follows the career of a music hall singer who becomes Paris' brightest star. What I especially loved was that it used real people from the time disbursed within the story. People such as Josephine Baker and the Count. I am also afraid to say too much more in case I give away too much of the storyline but the main character is almost virtuous for today's standards. I read a comment by the author which talked about how she was not comfortable writing sex scenes and therefore there were none originally in the book. Of course the publisher thought it needed to be spiced up. The author did well to stick to her guns though and relented only to put in a one page long scene. Please don't get me wrong I have nothing against sex, I even have two daughters to prove it, but by many authors writing the most detailed descriptions of intimate moments I feel it they are corrupting my own imagination. A few well considered words can paint a thousand images- I'm not an idiot. I would really be able to tell you the name of the book I once read where the author simply states something along the lines of 'and she looked up to the stars above'.
Anyway I'll get off my soap box now.

The other box I read was Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult. I had read another novel of hers called My sister's Keeper which was good but I was kind of disappointed in this other book. I guess mostly because it conflicts with my own beliefs, it deals alot with religion and organised religion. In any case I have enjoyed reading again as it makes me interested in the world around me and the lives of others.
I guess because I am restricted to some extent by small children its like having contact to a world outside my own.
I love reading and I certainly hope to pass this interest on to my children.
